There has been allot of thought going on with me about some communities thinking of going toward urging their citizens to buy pagers (a kind of small device that you carry along, and it starts beeping to alert you) and banning siren use in communities. Personally, I think sirens should stay as not everyone can afford a pager. And pagers can barely be heard in rough weather conditions. Public warning sirens are the only thing loud enough to warn people of danger if conditions are rough. And, believe me, pagers are ****. They beep annoyingly. 


So, do you promote domestic pagers to be used by people, or do you think the sirens should stay to warn people still?

Generally speaking, they both serve a good purpouse of warning. But it's a matter of affortability these days. A community-major can afford sirens for the public, but not everyone can afford a pager.

Well that depends. What if the siren breaks down? then you will have no evacutain signal. There are many pagers but everything costs money.

Yeah, generally speaking, both ways have their disadvantages. However, a community does test their sirens on a reasonable basis. So if something is wrong, they will know. I can bet you that there is a higher chance of people too poor or too lazy to go to the store and buy a pager, than there is a chance that if a siren fails to activate at a test, the response crew will not do their best.

Heres my opinion and the same goes for the LIFA forums.-
Any communities/fire depts. to use pagers and no sirens or horns, ARE DUMBASSES! When will they understand, you really can't live off just pagers? Have they heard of radio interference?
